This project came from AD318B Storytelling and production, where the task was to prototype an app that serves as a tool for the user attending YOUTOPIA, a conference centered around building identity and success for young adults. With this target audience in mind, incorporating vivid pink, purple and yellow, creates a color scheme that communicates vitality when paired with angular fonts and bold line weight. A screening questionnaire upon opening YOUTOPIA tailors the experience to the user and ensures they feel that using the app is something tied to their concept of identity and gives them control over their experience.
Once the user is logged in they can start registering for events from a curated list based on the screening questionnaire previously filled out. Structures such as the event cards on the homepage and time slot cards on the schedule break up and organize information by grouping related information. The layout is akin to Jan Tschichold, the German designer who pioneered “the new typography,” emphasizing sans serif text and functional layouts.
